In this chapter, some Levites have opposed Moses and Aaron. They have come to say that Moses has put himself on a pedestal above the rest of them. Moses has only obeyed God. They continue to talk about leaving Egypt and why he has brought them to the desert. They are not listening to God, they are getting caught on their selfish ways by trying to remove Moses and Aaron. They were selected to help minister to the rest of the Isrealites, but aren’t doing as God wishes. They and 250 others burn their own offering, the Lord listens to Moses as he had given the warning. He told them let the men die of natural causes if Moses did any wrong doing to the Isrealites, but if he was only doing as the Lord instructed for the earth to open up and swallow them whole. So, the men that had not listened to God and burned their own offering had the offering rejected and were cast into the center of the earth.
The point here is that God has given us rules to live by, he has a purpose and a plan for each of us. As we so his purpose we will be rewarded and feel the Holy Spirit with us, when we sin and go against his plan and break his rules we are separating ourselves from our Father. He may not end our lives as he did the people who did not believe in him and opposed him, but we will not get the rewards that come with walking in line with God. Think of that as you are have a self reflection. Are you consumed by the Holy Spirit or are you feel alone and lost?
Numbers 9:15-23 (NIV) On the day the tabernacle, the Tent of the Testimony, was set up, the cloud covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire.
That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire.
Whenever the cloud lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.
At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped. As long as the cloud stayed over the tabernacle, they remained in camp.
When the cloud remained over the tabernacle a long time, the Israelites obeyed the Lord’s order and did not set out.
Sometimes the cloud was over the tabernacle only a few days; at the Lord’s command they would encamp, and then at his command they would set out.
Sometimes the cloud stayed only from evening till morning, and when it lifted in the morning, they set out. Whether by day or by night, whenever the cloud lifted, they set out.
Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out; but when it lifted, they would set out.
At the Lord’s command they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses.
This is an amazing example of the isrealites’ obedience. God gave them direction by moving the clouds for them to follow. What should we do this day and time? It’s not so easy for us to follow God’s lead. We are not as in sync with God as Moses was. But if we stay focused, God fearing, and obiedent ourselves we will grow our relationship with God and have an easier time asking God for his plan for our lives. He will make our paths straight. Get to know his love and share it. He used the isrealites obeying him to take them to the promise Land, where is he taking you?
Our lives are so busy this day and time with social media, jobs, family, friends, and so much more. Jesus made it a point to go where it was quiet to talk to and listen to God. How many of us truly can say we can hear when God is talking to us? I know for me personally I can’t say I always can, because I am constantly staying busy trying to accomplish more and make more time in the day that I don’t have. The thought here is if we give God time then maybe he will give us time to do everything that we want/need. God is all powerful and who is to say that he wouldn’t stop time and give you and your heart the time it needs to come clean and rest. God loves us. This is a reminder to not only you, but to myself: take time and listen.
Numbers 1:53 (NIV) The Levites, however, are to set up their tents around the tabernacle of the Testimony so that wrath will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the Testimony.”
What is the #1 questions most people ask themselves? Could be in highschool or college, or just sitting at a picnic table on a fall day or really anywhere. The question is what is our purpose in life. We dream of a million things we want to be; doctor, lawyer, athlete, writer, and much more.
What I am getting at is that God has given us a mission and reason for being where we are, when we are. In the biblical example that I am using above. God has Moses gather men over 20 years old that were able to fight for Isreal. Over 600,000 men were chosen. The most klans were selected to march out and battle. The Levites however, we chosen to defend the Tabernacle. Most people like action packed lives. In this scenario, they probably wouldn’t enjoy the task of guarding the Tabernacle, but the key here is they were chosen to serve God. God has a plan for us too. As long as we are fulfilling that purpose then no matter how big or small the task we perceive it as, it puts a smile on God’s face. Keep that in mind as you search your soul. If God is smiling, I guarantee he will make our situation good enough where we are smiling too. Are you smiling?
Leviticus 26:15-16 (NIV) and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant,
then I will do this to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight and drain away your life. You will plant seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.
Does this remind you of some of the events we see in the world today? I don’t know about you, but to me this is happening today. Terrorists, cancer, and more sicknesses. We as a word are not obeying God in the ways he has commanded. But, there is definitely hope. Jesus did come on the earth and die for our sins. His resurrection gives us a chance to be forgiven of our broken ways and sin. He gives us more chances than we deserve to be saved. For all that have been impacted by any of the formentioned topics, I do pray for God to move in your life and let you never be impacted by anything like that again. We as Christians must show the world that this is what we face if we do not give God the love, respect, and obedience that he deserves. Share God’s love with your neighbor, your friend, your family, even a stranger, because they need Christ just as we need him!
Leviticus 23:22 (NIV) “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the Lord your God.'”
God gives us blessings in many aspects of our lives. Money from work, food from farming and much more. Today I wanted to talk about this verse from the book of Leviticus. The intial meaning that I first think of is, this is the Lord’s blessings and his harvest. He has allowed it to grow and flourish. So, when he tells us not to be selfish then that let’s me know that there is more than enough in that harvest for my and my family’s needs. He says not to go to the edges in collections. Do not pick anything fallen from the ground, that is for the animals, or the less fortunate. God will supply! He may very well be answering a prayer through you today, a prayer that another person has asked. I’m sure some of the less fortunate people were praying to God for food for survival, and he has commanded the fortunate to leave the edges or the crops uncollected! What an amazing God, to use our blessings for blessing even more people! Now think about your life today, maybe it’s not money that God has blessed you with. But I can assure you that you do have a gift, use that gift to bless someone today, use it everyday! Maybe it helps you make a living remember do collect the edges of your field, don’t be selfish, but share. May God bless you and you bless others!
We have all had our hearts broken at one point or another in our life, if you haven’t experienced this yet then I hope you never have to. The thing to remember is that we are not perfect how we are, but Jesus does want us as we are. He wants to transform us into the person that we are meant to be. Sometimes the way for him to get to our heart is for a situation to shatter our hearts. This could be losing a job, a friend, a loved one. Just to list a few. We are very caught up in looking for the next good feeling, what can I do to get that feeling? Maybe the reason that we look for those things has the same denominator…our missing piece of our heart. God fills our heart and completes us. Makes us whole if you will. Maybe what we have been chasing our whole lives hasn’t been the promotion, the spouse, the money, the high, but maybe just maybe he has been waiting right next to us our entire life…
Do you feel the chains holding you down in life? Does it seem like your past just won’t let you go? Remember in Exodus, that the Israelites were slaves to the Egyptians. Moses came in to the picture. He wasn’t good with words, but he did have something that noone else did have, that was faith to listen and do EXACTLY what God instructed. He led the Israelites out of Egypt, many questioned him serval times when they looked and saw little food or water. They would say, ” why have you led us out here to die? ” He would pray to the Lord and the Lord would bless them with their needs. Moses didn’t waiver in his faith. He truly led his life by faith and not by sight. Remember, we have chains that hold us back and down on this Earth. God sent us Jesus. He is the key to the chains, the key to the gate to the kingdom of heaven! Pray for the release of the chains, for the true freedom from the sins in your life. He will answer, I promise, he has promised!
